Job Description


The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Classified position as a Program Officer 1 for the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. Position will be located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Program Officer 1 expands 4-H through marketing, outreach, public relations and volunteer recruitment; organize community events to increase knowledge about 4-H opportunities and increase 4-H club chartering and membership, create media messages to increase positive image of 4-H and increase membership. This position will be responsible for increasing the number of adult and youth 4-H volunteers in urban and low-income neighborhoods, being the liaison between 4-H and all club members and leaders, maintain regular communication, set-up in-person site visit schedule, use Facebook groups and other social media to engage club members and leaders, recruit, train and supervise employees and volunteers; develop a volunteer competency checklist and a volunteer evaluation process. This position is also responsible for data collection by acting as the subject matter expert for Clark County 4-H electronic reporting systems, preparing mandated quarterly reports, managing the program evaluation process and other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.


This position requires experience working with positive youth development programs.


This position requires experience supervising staff.

This position requires experience working with data management and communication systems.


A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.


Preferred Qualification


Candidates with knowledge of positive Youth Development Theory and Practice, data management for program evaluation, the ability to develop and maintain an interactive 4-H website, create and maintain family handbooks and policies and procedures manuals, administer the online data management system, generate reports and ensure accuracy, skills in marketing, communications, social media and website design, and experience supervising staff and volunteer management are encouraged to apply.




The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.


This position requires working a variable work schedule, including nights and weekends and in-state travel.
