Position Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Extension Agriculture Educator. This position is in Fallon, NV, at the Churchill County Extension Office and reports to the Northern Extension Area Director.

The Agriculture Educator’s primary role is to advance agricultural production in Nevada by teaching producers innovative, sustainable solutions to agriculture issues. The successful candidate will develop creative hands-on public events and demonstrations of agricultural practices in Churchill, Mineral, and Pershing Counties to expand their knowledge, growth, and engagement in Nevada Agriculture. This position requires working effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and developing and maintaining solid working relationships. A benefit and joy of Extension work is engaging in improving communities and individuals’ lives in Nevada. This position will report to the Northern Area Extension Director.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience, OR Master’s Degree and one (1) years of related professional work experience Related Experience: Grant experience and experience in a field directly related to agriculture and natural resources or a related field This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with knowledge of agriculture in dry climates; general methods and techniques in program planning, design, and evaluation; and grant development and management processes are encouraged to apply. Candidates who can make exciting oral and written presentations; work with diverse audiences; write and obtain grants independently; and manage positive public interactions are encouraged to apply.

Other Requirements

A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.

Travel Requirements

This position requires a variable work schedule, with some nights and weekends expected. Moderate travel within the state with some overnight stays is required. Some travel out-of-state for conferences and meetings is required.
