Junior Extension Agent Minimum Qualifications: 1) Bachelor's degree from a college or university of recognized standing in horticulture, plant science or a closely related field. 2) Ability to apply Extension teaching methods, exercise independent judgement, work well with others. 3) Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License (class 3), comparable driver’s license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.



Assistant Extension Agent Minimum Qualifications: 1) Master's degree from a college or university of recognized standing in horticulture, plant science, or closely related field, or in addition to a Bachelor's degree, 30 credit hours of post-baccalaureate academic work in a closely related field. 2) At least 3 years of successful experience in Cooperative Extension work or equivalent in closely related field. 3) Ability to exercise independent judgment and to assume responsibility for developing an Extension program. 4) Ability to work harmoniously with other agents in an integrated Extension system, and with related agencies. 5) Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License (class 3), comparable driver’s license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs.

Desirable Qualifications: 1) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual channels, using traditional educational tools. 2) Training or practical experience in community horticulture, home gardening, Master Gardener program, and volunteer recruitment and management. 3) Coursework or experience in education/adult education or project management. 4) Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding or other in-kind program resources. 5) Experience with developing educational materials for websites and using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for educational purposes.
