Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a community horticultural program to promote environmentally sound home gardening, landscaping, pest management, and the wise use of natural resources by urban clientele and master gardener volunteers in Maui County (islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai). Recruit, lead and manage Master Gardener volunteers within the County
  2. Work with the statewide Master Gardener faculty team to implement consistent statewide training; recruit volunteers and coordinate the Master Gardner training program, activities and events in Maui County
  3. Develop and deliver an integrated program, prepare educational materials, conduct workshops and conferences, respond to inquiries from the public and serve as a resource for instructional programs in the area of urban horticulture
  4. Develop multi-disciplinary, collaborative partnerships with faculty, government/community agencies, Master Gardeners, industry, community groups and the general public
  5. Develop education and demonstration activities in the “Cooperative Extension- Kahului Education and Demonstration Garden” in collaboration with the Maui Agricultural Research Center (MARC) technicians, CTAHR faculty, and community collaborators/volunteers.
  6. Promote and market Extension programs
  7. Obtain grants and pursue other funding opportunities to provide program sustainability.
  8. Contribute to scholarly and Extension activities on the county, state, and national levels.
  9. Participate in Department, College and University service/governance
  10. Must be willing to travel by air as needed to the islands of Lanai and Molokai
  11. Work with stakeholders involves some meetings that occur after normal working hours and/or on weekends at off-site locations. Coordinate with the volunteer Master Gardener Advisory Board
