Position Description
Roosevelt County is located in northeast Montana. The county borders North Dakota to the East and the Missouri River to the South. The Extension Office is located in Culbertson (population 690) in the eastern part of the county. Wolf Point, the county seat is on the west end of the county. The Fort Peck Indian Reservation occupies the western portion of the county and is home to the Sioux and Assiniboine Tribes. The county has a population of approximately 11,175 with the largest town being Wolf Point (population 2774). The other three incorporated towns include Poplar (Pop 852); Froid (Pop 235); and Bainville (Pop 215); along with the unincorporated communities of Brockton and Ft. Kipp.
The Roosevelt County 4-H program has over 100 youth and adult members, and four 4-H Clubs. The county has a variety of recreational activities, including sporting activities, hunting, and fishing. Fort Peck Lake is accessible for a pleasurable day of boating, picnicking, camping, or touring. The town of Culbertson is home to a K-12 school, a fully staffed hospital and is within an hour of larger hospitals in Sidney and Williston, North Dakota. Also available to Culbertson residents are an outdoor sports complex, library, senior center, swimming pool, and a newly developed fishing pond and walking trail.
Duties and Responsibilities
In partnership with the Ag Agent, provide leadership for development, planning, facilitation, and evaluation of the Roosevelt County 4-H program to foster positive youth development and volunteer recruitment and engagement toward a successful 4-H program.
Develop, plan, implement, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Science, and Community Vitality as identified by community needs.
Collaborate with local Extension staff and stakeholder groups to conduct continuous needs assessments in all areas of Extension to inform programming priorities in Roosevelt County.
Embrace a team approach to planning, developing, and implementing the overall MSU Extension program in Roosevelt County.
Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with peer Extension agents, Extension specialists, county commissioners, and appropriate local individuals, groups, boards, agencies, and organizations to leverage educational programming in Roosevelt County.
