This position is located in Choteau, MT.
The primary duty for County Extension Faculty is to assess local community needs, then to develop, implement, and evaluate Extension programming to meet those needs. The primary emphases of the Teton County Extension agent position are in the areas of family and consumer sciences and 4-H/youth development, with secondary emphasis on community development. The MSU Teton County Extension Office is staffed by one other Extension agent whose job emphases are mainly in the areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4-H/Youth Development, and Community Development. The agents are assisted by two part-time administrative assistants when fully staffed.

General Statement
This position is located in Choteau, MT.
Teton County is located on the western edge of the Golden Triangle area of Montana, fifty-five miles northwest of Great Falls and within two hours of Glacier National Park. Choteau, a community nestled between the Rocky Mountains and the plains, is the county seat and has a population of 1,721. Total county population is 6,085. Other towns and communities in Teton County include Dutton, Fairfield, Power, Pendroy, and Bynum. A Community Health Needs Assessment-Improvement Plan was conducted in 2020 as a collaboration between Teton Community Health Department, Benefits Teton Medical Center, and Teton Community Alliance for Resiliency and Educational Support. The report identified existing health status within the county and objectives and approaches to improve health and quality of life in Teton County.

Teton County has approximately 165 registered 4-H members and 64 registered 4-H volunteers. There are five organized 4-H clubs and two project clubs in the county, an active 4-H Camp, 4-H youth leadership, and Shooting Sports programs. Teton County 4-H and Extension administer the Teton County 4-H Fair, which is held the last full weekend in June.

There are complete K-12 school systems in Choteau, Fairfield, Power and Dutton-Brady. There are additional elementary schools in the county, including Greenfield, Bynum, Golden Ridge, and Hutterite colony schools. There are medical facilities in Choteau and throughout the county, including clinics, a hospital, nursing home, assisted living facilities, dentists, chiropractor, and optometrist. Teton County and surrounding areas offer numerous recreational opportunities, including camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. The county is within an hour of an international airport.

Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, plan, implement, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in Family and Consumer Sciences, which may emphasize food and nutrition, health and wellness, mental health and stress management, healthy lifestyles, finance management, and estate planning; 4-H/Youth Development; and Community Development that result in positive community impacts.
Share leadership for the Teton County 4-H program with the Agriculture and 4-H/Youth Development Agent to foster positive youth development and adult engagement and a successful 4-H program.
Collaborate with local Extension staff and stakeholder groups to conduct continuous needs assessments in Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H/Youth Development, and Community Development to inform programming priorities in Teton County.
Embrace a team approach to planning, developing, and implementing the overall MSU Extension program in Teton County.

Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with peer Extension agents, Extension specialists, county commissioners, and appropriate local individuals, groups, boards, agencies, and organizations to leverage educational programming in Teton County.
