Extension Communications & Technology provides innovative, results-oriented communications and technology solutions that support and promote the mission and image of MSU Extension.
The web application developer/systems administrator works as a member of the collaborative communications & technology team of graphic designers, editors, content creators, project managers and systems administrators, to provide online solutions and services from needs assessment to project deployment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identify, develop, test, implement comprehensive technical solutions for new and existing web projects.
Responsible for managing the execution of web projects from planning through deployment.
Provide users, including Extension faculty, staff & affiliates, with training, support and troubleshooting in the use of MSU’s web content management system.
Plan and implement usability, accessibility and search engine optimization improvements across all Extension web applications.
Works as a member of a collaborative team to provide technical administration and support, including patching, upgrades/updates, performance monitoring, security administration, backup and recovery for Extension server systems and databases.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Design & Application Development, or a related field; two years of recent, progressive full-time computer programming experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated successful experience performing analysis of system specifications and developing software to meet requirements. Experience with relational database administration and SQL. Including configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting and data backup & recovery. Demonstrated intermediate to advanced experience programming with procedural or object-oriented languages. Demonstrated experience in administering and supporting critical computer systems in a windows production environment and solving complex issues to ensure maximum system security, reliability, and availability.
The Successful Candidate Will Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse group of professionals through excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Works effectively as a team member and can support and enhance the work of others through positive interactions. Ability to effectively communicate with, and support users across the state of Montana, both internal and external to MSU Extension, using various distance communication methods. Maintain attention to detail, meet deadlines and prioritize competing demands. Demonstrated knowledge and application of web accessibility standards and best procures.
Occasional travel throughout the state
