Position Description

As County Director, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations for the Weld County Extension office, including support and supervision of other CSU staff that may include State Classified, Administrative Professionals and Faculty, as well as employees of Weld County assigned to the office. Currently there are a total of 13 employees in the Extension office, which is a standalone department within the County. Colorado State University Extension and Weld County are seeking a dynamic leader with the experience and skills to lead a diverse and high-functioning staff in the strategic delivery of quality educational programs and services attuned to the community needs in Weld County. The successful candidate will have a record of success managing administrative functions including an approximate $722,000 Extension budget, personnel and a positive work culture, programming, day-to-day office operations and fostering both internal and external collaborations and teamwork. The Director will also be an effective communicator with the experience and skills to engage with a variety of people and groups. This individual will promote, represent, and build connections for Extension in Weld County and support staff and stakeholders in doing the same. They will collaborate with other Front Range County Directors and work as part of a team, with strong connections to CSU resources such as the CSU Spur campus, statewide and regional specialists, and teams that offer expertise and resources to deliver quality educational programming that meets community needs. The Director will work as a local representative of Colorado State University Extension.

This position provides guidance and coordinates with the Weld County Fair by providing limited supervision of County Fair employees. The County Director may also attend Fair Board Meetings as needed.

The County Director acts as the Weld County Extension Department head and performs administrative functions for employees such as payroll verification (approving time and absences), revising job descriptions, recruitment and hiring, performance evaluations, and taking disciplinary actions as needed. The successful candidate will meet with the Weld County Board of Commissioners as needed and meet regularly with an assigned Commissioner liaison.

This individual works under the guidance and supervision of the Front Range Regional Director and reports to and liaises with the Weld Board of County Commissioners. The primary office location for this position is in Greeley, Colorado. While this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, the individual in this position is expected to maintain a balance establishing a presence in the primary office that is consistent with County expectations, to effectively carry out the duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, and occasional nights and weekend work will be necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Completed master’s degree. Conferred degree may be in a variety of disciplines, including business, community development, Extension education, youth development, agricultural sciences, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, public health, or related degree that can significantly contribute to administrative and/or program responsibilities. •Five years professional experience relevant to the Essential Job Duties (below) of this position. • Professional experience must demonstrate a broad and significant understanding of leading, directing and managing a high-functioning team. • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date. • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position

Preferred Qualifications

• As evidenced by written materials, experience in office administration, mentoring a high functioning team and maintaining an exceptional workplace culture, creating and managing budgets, working with elected officials, and collaborating internally and externally with partners to complete organizational goals. • As evidenced by written materials, experience and/or certifications in managing conflict, mediating outcomes, and facilitating group discussion/decision making. • As evidenced by written materials, successful experience developing financial support for educational programs: grant writing, fund raising, contracting, or cost recovery. • As evidenced by written materials, experience in audience needs identification, program development, evaluating, and reporting results of programs. • Minimum two years professional adult volunteer development, leadership and management experience including volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education and training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support to prepare volunteers to take on increasing leadership, management, and diverse public education/information roles. • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
