Position Description

The Department of Poultry Science in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor and Extension Specialist. This faculty position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with a 75% extension and 25% research appointment. The projected start date is August 2022.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized extension and research program in one or more areas of hatchery, broiler breeder management, and/or broiler management. The successful candidate will be expected to provide state and regional leadership in these topic areas through interactions/collaborations with industry personnel, governmental agencies, county-based extension agents, extension specialists, and research-oriented faculty in Poultry Science, the National Poultry Technology Center, the College of Agriculture, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and related disciplines. Extramural funding to support his/her extension and research programs will be secured from sources such as USDA and other related federal sponsors, and from industry sources and commodity boards in Alabama and across the country. In addition, departmental, college, and university committee service will be expected.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in poultry science, animal science or closely related disciplines by the expected position start date.
The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative extension and research efforts in hatchery management, broiler breeder management, and/or broiler management resulting in extramural grants, peer-reviewed research and extension publications, popular press articles, and oral presentations at scientific meetings and extension events is preferred. There is an industry need for expertise and a willingness to work with stakeholders in the area of hatchery and breeder management to improve chick quality.
Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor are strongly encouraged, but those with an established reputation as a leader in one of the stated poultry management areas above will also be considered at the rank of Associate Professor. Examples of documented evidence of established reputation may include, but not limited to, evidence of ability to sustain externally sponsored funding to support research and extension programs.
