Extension Agent

Position Description

Responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive education program in agriculture and natural resources, community leadership development and 4-H. The agent serves as a member of a statewide team to determine effective programming priorities and delivery methods. All agents will be responsible for 4-H and Enterprise and Community Resource Development.

Consult and maintain a positive relationship with appropriate local program advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, representatives of intended audiences, and the county Extension Executive Board to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs; assess the relevance, significance, and timeliness of identified needs and develop measurable goals and an annual plan of work in collaboration with appropriate agents, specialists, and priority program groups; communicate, coordinate, and facilitate delivery of educational activities in accomplishing program plans while accommodating unplanned needs; administer all appropriate and necessary local supervisory and administrative responsibilities and assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies as well as Extension and University policies; demonstrate sensitivity to key public issues, personal community involvement, and excellent relationships with educational, regulatory and service organizations whose missions are relevant to the goals of Extension.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources, or a field of study determined by Extension Administration to be closely related to the job duties from an accredited institution of higher learning. Applicants must have a minimum of 15 semester credit hours successfully completed in agricultural courses. Applicants (without a Master's degree) must have a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of college coursework on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must agree to complete a Master's degree within five (5) academic years of employment. Applicants must maintain a valid driver's license.

The selected applicant will be expected to establish and maintain your permanent residence in Holmes County or an adjacent Mississippi county within 6 months of employment unless otherwise approved by the Extension Director and the Holmes County Board of Supervisors.

Salary will be commensurate with level of qualification. Benefits include personal and medical leave, retirement, and medical insurance.

An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background screen.
