Position Description

Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty, 12 month, tenure track position. Extension faculty develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs to enhance quality of life for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This Extension position includes university responsibilities and is based in Garfield County with some crossover in providing assistance to the bordering county of Kane County in the area of Natural Resources and Livestock Production. Reciprocally Kane County faculty will provide Horticulture expertise in Garfield County. Additional responsibilities for this position include managing the USU Panguitch Research Farm https://uaes.usu.edu/farms/panguitch-research

An office will be provided at the USU Extension office in Panguitch, the county seat of Garfield County.

The position requires knowledge of range management, livestock production (especially beef cattle), production agriculture (alfalfa and grass hay), and 4-H agriculture programs (Jr. Livestock). We welcome candidates with diverse interests and experience related to these areas.

Responsibilities Include:

Provide leadership to Extension activities such as range management, livestock production, small acreage pasture management, and general agricultural production.
Develop, implement and evaluate agricultural programs for adults.
Develop, implement and evaluate 4-H agricultural programs for youth such as Jr. Livestock, 4-H Horse, 4-H Shooting Sports, and Youth Natural Resources Programs.
Manage the USU Panguitch Research Farm.
Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new
Work with on-campus specialists in developing applied research projects and program development and delivery to clientele.
Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming.
Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming.
Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers.
Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension.
Serve and collaborate with other Extension and University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders.
