Position Description

Utah State University Extension invites applications for a Professional Practice Extension Assistant Professor position in Carbon and Emery counties UT. This position is a non-tenure track, fiscal year 12- month/year, term appointment. Extension faculty develop, provide, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This faculty member will have Carbon and Emery counties, regional, and University responsibilities. An office will be provided at the Carbon County Extension building in Price, Utah. The initial focus of this position will be prevention of opioid misuse.
The faculty will join four other HEART (Health Extension: Advocacy, Research, and Teaching) faculty located in counties across the state. The HEART Initiative focuses on current public health issues (e.g., opioids, mental health and wellness, suicide prevention, and other pressing public health crises) in 9 counties and throughout Utah. Responsibilities
Develop, implement and evaluate health & wellness programs for adults and youth, including teachers, parents, and students.
Conduct needs assessments of community and state needs.
Serve as a liaison between the Health & Wellness needs of the state (i.e., Opioid Initiative, suicide prevention, and other pressing public health crises), Extension, the local community and national efforts.
Serve and collaborate with other Extension and University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders.
Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming for substance abuse and prevention efforts, as well as public health needs facing various regions.
Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming.
Support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension.
