Position Description
The Department of Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources at New Mexico State University seeks to fill a 12-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. (in hand by hire date) in a natural resources-related field. This position, based on the main campus in Las Cruces, includes responsibilities in Extension, research, and service. The successful candidate will develop and deliver extension and outreach programs addressing critical issues and challenges related to New Mexico’s rangelands, as well as conduct applied research aligned with the Extension program.
We seek a candidate with the ability to interpret and make practical applications of current weed and brush research findings on western rangelands. The selected faculty member will work cooperatively with county agents, landowners, livestock producers, government agencies, and environmental interest groups. Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate an ability to engage individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Additionally, the candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized research program focused on topics related to rangeland ecology and management. This research may include novel approaches to weed and brush management, reducing impacts of invasive species, herbicide efficacy trials, or exploring other related areas.
