Description:
The OSU Forestry & Natural Resources Extension program invites applications for five full-time (1.0FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Extension Fire Program Regional Specialists in the Forestry & Natural Resources Extension Fire program. The Extension Fire Regional Specialists will have the academic rank of Assistant Professor of Practice (Masters degree required). The academic home for these positions will be in either the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management, or the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society within the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. These are regional, multi-county positions located throughout Oregon. Visit the supplemental question section to identify the preferred location and preference for consideration. Reappointments are at the discretion of the Regional Director and the Forestry & Natural Resources Extension Program Leader.These positions are designed to focus on Extension program development and delivery related to wildland fire science and management. The position will focus on educational programming to assist private forest and range owners and managers, wildland-urban interface homeowners, communities, and fire and fuel specialists and the fire suppression workforce. Key topics will include collaborative natural resource management, Fire Adapted Communities, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, wildland fire fuel reduction and management, prescribed burning, timber and range management treatments to build fire resistance and resilience, post-burn recovery, firewise programming, and fire workforce development.These positions will work directly with a Fire Program Manager,FNR Extension faculty, and the statewide Fire Specialist in the Forestry & Natural Resources and Fire Extension Programs, and will also work cooperatively with external partners such as the Oregon Department of Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Small Woodlands Association, the Oregon Tree Farm System, The Nature Conservancy, Tribal Nations, Sustainable Northwest, Northwest Fire Science Consortium, local fire department and fire protection districts, and the State Fire Marshal to develop partnerships and facilitate landscape-scale, cross-boundary management projects.Oregon State University is committed to practicing and delivery of tools for state-of-the-science interaction and engagement of partners and stakeholders.This individual is required to use modern learning tools, employ and practice engaged scholarship, promote integration of programs across disciplines that are demand-drive and use open source tools that continually align with innovation and shifts in educational program delivery.
