Description:
JOB PURPOSE: The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming seeks applications for a 9-month tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Regional Economics, with a focus on community economic development. The successful candidate will have a majority extension appointment with most of the remainder of the appointment focused on research (exact job duties split is negotiable). The successful candidate will also have an appointment as Faculty Research Fellow in the UW Center for Business and Economic Analytics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West experience periodic economic boom/bust cycles, wealth disparities between urban and rural areas, and a patchwork pattern of public and private land ownership. We seek an individual to develop an innovative, applied research and extension program in regional economics that contributes to the land grant mission of the university by addressing issues of relevance to the state and region. Relevant issues may include the following challenges: balancing economic development and natural resource management, dependence on energy/mineral extraction, state and local government fiscal stability, labor and wage dynamics, and tourism and amenity-based population growth. The successful candidate will disseminate research results through scholarly journal articles, extension publications, and presentations to academic, policy, and stakeholder audiences. Stakeholder audiences can include economic development professionals, industry leaders, state and local government policymakers, and federal agencies. The successful candidate is expected to seek external funding to support their research program and to seek collaborative research opportunities with other faculty and regional economic stakeholders. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to mentor MS students in Agricultural and Applied Economics and to seek committee assignments on other graduate (MS and PhD) committees across campus. Teaching a class at the graduate or undergraduate level (in person or distance) is also a potential opportunity, depending upon candidate interest and department needs. Assistant professors shall normally hold the terminal qualification in their discipline (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., MFA, etc.), and shall have demonstrated ability, through appropriate experience, to perform the functions of the position they are to hold.
