North Dakota State University Extension is recruiting a highly motivated and visionary leader to serve as district director for central North Dakota. NDSU Extension is an organization that values individuals who are trusted educators, adapt easily, exhibit passion for helping others and are excellent communicators. The Central District director will report to the director of NDSU Extension. The successful candidate will reside in the Central District (Benson, Bottineau, Burleigh, Dickey, Eddy, Emmons, Foster, Kidder, LaMoure, Logan, McHenry, McIntosh, Pierce, Ramsey, Renville, Rolette, Sheridan, Stutsman, Towner, Ward and Wells counties) or counties immediately adjacent to the Central District. Office support is provided through the Carrington Research Extension Center in Carrington, N.D., but the successful candidate is not required to have an office there. Administrative ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and supervision for NDSU Extension agents and educators in Benson, Bottineau, Burleigh, Dickey, Eddy, Emmons, Foster, Kidder, LaMoure, Logan, McHenry, McIntosh, Pierce, Ramsey, Renville, Rolette, Sheridan, Stutsman, Towner, Ward and Wells counties. Specific counties and geographies may change through time and are determined by the needs of the organization.Lead the recruitment efforts for Extension agent positions in the Central District in collaboration with peer district directors, county commissioners, Extension program leaders and the director of NDSU Extension.Oversee personnel administration in collaboration with county commissioners, including but not limited to employee relations with state and county personnel, policy/procedure interpretation, performance management, budget review, promotion and separation, mentoring and coaching. Provide oversight of state travel requests, time off, reimbursement, incident reports, and other state and university administrative functions associated with employees.Work with county commissioners and the director of NDSU Extension on special circumstance funding and/or personnel recruitment through memorandums of understanding, contracts and other arrangements to provide services and programming when retirements, leave of absences or resignations occur based on regional or priority issues.Provide oversight of district support staff and/or assistant or interim district directors.Leadership ResponsibilitiesConduct/facilitate meetings and correspondence for the purpose of improving or enhancing relationships with county commissioners, employee guidance, recruitment and retention, and/or personnel management Exercise leadership in determining training needs, communicating with the Extension Leadership Team and securing training programs for staff in the Central DistrictWork collaboratively with the Extension Leadership Team responsible for orientation/mentoring of field staff, 4-H Youth Development state duties, program evaluation and reporting system, tribal relationships, leadership development programs, professional development conferences and opportunities, internships, operational and fiscal stratification, and legislative prioritiesLead or co-lead committees or statewide tasks that may include career or agricultural related expo days, county coordinator training, evaluation and reporting system review, liaison roles on various state committees, civil rights responsibilities, record retention, award programs and othersLiaison with OrganizationsBuild collaborative relationships with boards of county commissioners, county auditors and others vital to the role of NDSU Extension county-based programmingWork with appropriate NDSU departments for recruitment efforts, compliance with state and federal laws, training requirements, and conflict resolution, as well as diversity and inclusion initiativesBuild relationships with other North Central Cooperative Extension Association and/or national Extension staff for professional and organizational development purposesOtherFrequent travel (including occasional overnight travel) is required within the district and to other state meetings and events. ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
Masters degree in an agricultural, family and consumer sciences, education or administrative discipline that corresponds to the responsibilities of the position
Years of experience :
Five or more years of direct work experience in Extension programming at a land-grant university
Travel Requirements:
Frequent travel (including occasional overnight travel) is required within the district and to other state meetings and events. A state fleet vehicle and per diem are provided.
Other Requirements:
- Relevant supervisory or managerial work experience, including excellent mediation, problem solving and conflict management skills - Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an independent manner and as a team member - Teams may include employees as well as external individuals and groups such as county commissioners and stakeholders.- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to listen with the intent to understand - Skilled in the use of computers and other electronic equipment for office applications and in presentation technology- Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, interest in and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and evidence of a commitment to reach underserved audiences with relevant Extension programming
