The selected candidate for this position will reside in Laughlin, NV. The primary role of the Extension Educator in Southern Clark County is to establish a non-formal (non-credit) community based education program focused upon identified needs. Extension educators use the breadth and depth of peer-reviewed research as the foundation of their education programming. This position assesses community needs, develops and implements relevant educational programming, conducts appropriate applied research (original or library) to address identified issues, and documents program outcomes and impacts. Additional roles and responsibilities include: 1) providing subject matter expertise to colleagues in Cooperative Extension and/or the University of Nevada Reno; 2) developing resources (e.g., grants , gifts, budget enhancements ) as needed to address identified needs; 3) providing professional development to peers, internal and external collaborators, and one's-self; 4) providing oversight and management of the Southern Clark County Laughlin Extension Office; and 5) assuming professionalism with all internal and external audiences, ensuring proactive communication. Furthermore, The Extension Educator manages the Southern Clark County Laughlin extension office and related resources, provides oversight of the county 4-H staff and program, and serves as the local university liaison with county government. While the focus of this position is educational programming in Southern Clark County, Extension faculty also are available to provide their expertise throughout Nevada as situations warrant and time permits. The typical role statement for Extension Educators is 70% teaching, 25% scholarship, research and/or creativity; and 5% service (community, college, university, and professional societies). This position requires a commitment to work effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and to develop and maintain solid working relationships within the community.

The natural attraction provided by the Colorado River and the surrounding desert landscapes captivates visitors as much as the bright and busy casino hotels along Casino Drive. It's a unique combination of harsh with lush, and just the right balance between Macau and Mayberry, a gambling resort with fishing privileges, calm, friendly and undemanding. There are so many things to do in Laughlin, from biking and running along the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail, Lake Mohave and the Colorado River to the indulgences of Laughlin's gourmet restaurants, Laughlin has big-city entertainment wrapped up in small-town charm. There are more than 10,000 residents in Laughlin (a 22% growth rate since 2000) and growth is expected to increase another 16% over the next five years. Laughlin has its own supermarket-anchored shopping center, pizza places and Chinese cafe. Almost all the attributes of a mainstream American town. The countryside around Laughlin is inviting to the backroad explorer; temperatures are most comfortable from late fall through early spring, and in March and April the wildflowers make a brilliant display.

Minimum education level :
Required QualificationsLecturer, Extension Educator, non-tenure track - Compensation Grade 0(II):Master's degree at the time of employment in one of the following broad fields: Community Development, Youth Development and Rural Sociology with a focus toward Economic/family development, or other related degree programs.The successful candidate will be expected toWork a flexible schedule, with periodic evening and weekend work.Perform manual labor, lift heavy objects greater than 20 pounds, establish field research plots, drive long distances and work in inclement weather.Work alone for extended periods and interact collegially with small and large teams.Periodically travel throughout the state to assist with multi-county or statewide efforts related to subject matter expertise or attend Southern Area and/or state-wide Extension meetings.Preferred QualificationsAt least two years' experience in organizational development in a community education setting.Experience in collaboration with county government in budgeting, program development and evaluation.Experience in developing community collaborations and partnerships.Experience in youth development leadership relevant (similar) to oversight of a 4-H program Experience in community education program development.Experience in program evaluation.Experience with community needs assessments.Experience with fund development.Ability to interpret and conduct statistical analysis.
