Please note: The Extension Agent track is permanent status-accruing and the Program Extension Agent track is non-permanent status-accruing in the Florida Cooperative Extension Service (FCES). The track followed by a successful candidate who does not currently hold permanent status in FCES will be agreed upon by UF and the candidate and will depend on current position and experience. A successful candidate who currently holds permanent status in FCES will follow the Extension Agent track.Job description:The Florida Cooperative Extension Service is a partnership between state, federal, and county governments that provides quality, relevant education and research-based expertise to foster healthy people, a healthy environment, and a healthy economy. We are the resource that helps educate Floridians to address issues related to agriculture, horticulture, natural resources, youth development, families and communities.University of Florida/IFAS Extension seeks to fill a Regional Specialized Extension Agent or Program Extension Agent position (RSA) with a self-starting, energetic, team-oriented individual that will also serve as our Hastings Agricultural Extension Center Director. As the HAEC Center Director you will be the administrative head of the unit, providing leadership and support for the HAEC multi-disciplinary extension and research programs essential to the agricultural, natural resource conservation, environmental, economic, and consumer interests of the area.Since 1923, UF research and extension activities have assisted local producers in developing a sustainable industry, contributing to economic development in northeast Florida. UF scientists conduct research in cultivar development and evaluation, plant nutrition, and irrigation management along with pest management disciplines focusing on entomology, nematology, plant pathology, and weed science. HAEC researchers are involved in several USDA multi-state projects. You will be responsible for supporting these activities and will provide a platform for extension activities that bring science-based information to local, state, regional and international audiences.Additionally, you will plan, organize, develop, implement, teach, evaluate, and report on educational programs that focus on production and marketing of major row crops, potato, cabbage, Asian vegetables, and fruit crops. Additionally, you will assist in identifying and evaluating alternative crops to enhance marketing opportunities for local growers. You will develop and deliver science-based educational programs in response to clientele needs and evaluate program outcomes and impacts. HAEC programs seek to improve the viability of the regional agricultural economy, protect and enhance natural resources, support sound urban and rural landscape practices, and encourage positive interests at the urban-agricultural interface.Full position description at http://apply.interfolio.com/70846

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
A masters degree and at least 6 years of land-grant university extension experience or equivalent are required. Degrees may be in agriculture, horticulture, plant sciences, or a closely related field.

Preferred qualifications:Holding Certified Crop Advisor status is preferred. The chosen candidate should be a proactive leader with a track record of managing complex projects with successful deliverables. You should: 1) have excellent leadership, communication, teaching, and facilitation skills; 2) be able to create and maintain resource networks; 3) demonstrate proficiency with electronic media and contemporary web-based tools for educational programs and communication; 4) have experience working with diverse audiences at all socioeconomic levels; and 5) have a commitment to UF/IFAS and Extension core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
