University of Nevada, Reno Extension and Experiment Station are seeking a full-time tenure-track Nutrition Specialist at the Assistant Professor level to be located in Reno, Nevada. This faculty position will be 60% teaching, 35% research and 5% service. The position is funded by Extension (75%) and Experiment Station (25%) with the primary appointment residing with Extension. This position is located in the Washoe County Extension Office, Reno, NV. Travel throughout the state will commensurate with some statewide responsibilitiesThe faculty/Specialist will effectively integrate community-based Extension programming, applied research, and professional/community service efforts that serve to improve the nutritional health and reduce chronic disease risk among Nevadans. These efforts should reflect social determinants of health/nutrition; include policies, systems and environmental approaches; and address critical needs. The primary focus of this position is to:1) Identify priorities for community-based Extension nutrition programming in Washoe County and the state of Nevada.2) Conduct population-based programming utilizing policies, systems and environmental approaches as well as direct education.3) Develop culturally responsive approaches to program delivery for diverse audiences including under-represented and under-served populations.4) Establish a successful record of research and scholarship by securing extramural funding and publishing applied research results in appropriate refereed journals. 5) Cultivate impactful collaborations with other colleagues including those within the Nevada System of Higher Education, and related public and NGO agencies. Minimum education level :
Required qualifications1) A doctoral degree in nutrition, public health, or other closely related field. 2) Excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.3) Experience in community-based nutrition programming.

Preferred qualificationsRegistered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).A minimum of two years experience in population-based public health/nutrition programming in urban/suburban community settings. Experience in assessing/determining community needs and assets.Experience in developing community relationships with advocacy, citizen and coalition groups, stakeholders, university faculty, and other community groups.Experience supervising and managing staff, managing budgets and administrative duties. Experience in writing and publication of scholarly work.
