Description:
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension invites applications for a full-time, fiscal-year 4-H Youth Development Professional to begin work autumn 2019, and work out of the UMaine Extension York County Office in Springvale, Maine. This position will provide educational leadership for 4-H Youth Development in York County. 4-H is a non-formal, experiential education program for youth, and adults working with those youth, to develop life skills necessary to be self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. The selected candidate will work to support youth development through 4-H volunteers, 4-H Leaders Association and community partnerships. This position will foster an open, educational environment to promote the learning and growth of 4-H youth and develop and provide educational programs and resources that address the needs of youth in York County in partnership with other Extension staff in the region to create a multidisciplinary approach to youth development. A priority will be to strengthen the 4-H programs in York County through clubs, after school, and community engagement with an emphasis on strengthening the 4-H Science programs.

Qualifications:Required: Bachelor's Degree Experience working with youth and volunteers. Demonstrated skill in designing and delivering community-based educational programs with an emphasis on youth development. Demonstrated management and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience in prioritizing and managing logistics of events, conferences, and programs. Collaborative work skills with other agencies and organizations. Demonstrated effective communication using oral, written and electronic methods. Demonstrated experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint online tools and platforms. Ability to travel both in and out-of-state, usually requiring a valid driver's license. Independent as well as teamwork skills; must be self-motivated and directed with the ability to achieve measurable results and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment. Work schedule flexibility depending upon program needs. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Human Development, Education or related field. Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and its 4-H Youth Development programs. Volunteer management and development experience. Demonstrated facilitation skills, which includes the ability to handle conflict. Experience with science education for youth. Knowledge or skills in a STEM field, animal science, agriculture and/or horticulture. Demonstrated proficiency in developing, implementing and managing program funds. Grant writing or fundraising experience. Community education/teaching experience. Successful supervisory experience.
