Description:
University of Nevada, Reno, Cooperative Extension is recruiting for a full-time, 12-month Extension Educator for its Lyon County Nevada location. The selected candidate for this position will reside in Yerington. Lyon County comprises several communities near Reno and Carson where the chaos of city life is left behind, diverse farming and neighbors a high-tech city that houses cutting-edge companies like Tesla, Google, Switch and Blockchains. The County also features state parks, wildlife areas and mountain range vistas for outdoor enthusiasts. The primary role of the Extension Educator is to establish a non-formal (non-credit) community-based education program focused upon identified needs in economic and community development, agriculture, children, youth and families, horticulture, natural resources, and, health and nutrition. Extension Educators use peer-reviewed research as the foundation of their educational programming. This position assesses community needs, develops and implements relevant educational programming, and documents program outcomes and impacts. Additional roles and responsibilities include: 1) creating appropriate research, scholarly and/or creative works (peer-reviewed extension and journal publications, presentations at professional meetings, use of electronic media, etc.); 2) providing subject matter expertise to colleagues in Cooperative Extension and/or the University of Nevada, Reno; 3) developing resources (grants, gifts, budget enhancements) as needed; 4) providing professional development to peers, collaborators, and self; 5) providing oversight and management of the Lyon County Extension Office and related resources; and 6) assuming professionalism with all internal and external audiences, ensuring proactive communication. Furthermore, this position provides oversight of the 4-H staff and program and serves as the local university liaison with county government. The typical role statement for Extension Educators is 70% teaching, 25% scholarship, research and creativity, and 5% service (community, college, university and professional societies). This position requires a commitment to work effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and to develop and maintain solid working relationships within the community.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
For non-tenure track applicants, a masters degree in one of the following broad fields: Economics, Agriculture, Community Development, Youth and Family Development, Rural Sociology, Natural Resource Management or other related degree programs. For tenure track applicants, a Ph.D. degree in one of the following broad fields: Economics, Agriculture, Community Development, Youth and Family Development, Rural Sociology, Natural Resource Management or other related degree programs.
Years of experience :
Preferred Qualifications: At least two years experience in organizational development in a community education setting, experience in collaboration with the county government in budgeting, program development, and evaluation, experience in developing community collaborations and partnerships, experience in youth development leadership relevant (similar) to oversight of a 4-H program, experience in community education program development, experience in program evaluation, experience with community needs assessments, experience with fund development, ability to interpret and conduct statistical analysis
Travel Requirements:
The successful candidate will be expected to periodically travel throughout the state to assist with multi-county or statewide efforts related to subject matter expertise or attend area and state-wide Extension meetings
Other Requirements:
The successful candidate will be expected to:Work a flexible schedule, with periodic evening and weekend work, perform manual labor, lift heavy objects greater than 20 pounds, drive long distances and work in inclement weather, work alone for extended periods and interact collegially with small and large teams.
