Description:
Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty position as an Extension Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure track, twelve-month, fiscal year position. Extension faculty develop, provide, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. Extension faculty have Summit County, regional, and University responsibilities. An office will be provided at the USU Extension office, located at the Summit County Courthouse in Coalville, Utah. We welcome candidates with diverse interests related to 4-H livestock programs, small farms development and production, urban agriculture, and horticulture. The proposed start date for this position is June 15, 2019

Additional Description, Instructions or Comments:
Responsibilities:-Provide leadership to Extension activities such as 4-H youth programs, specifically 4-H livestock programming, urban agriculture, small farms production, and horticulture.-Develop, implement and evaluate programs for adults and youth.-Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences.-Use virtual learning and innovative technology skills to meet the needs of small farms and rural agriculture along the Wasatch back and surrounding communities.-Collaborate closely with faculty and staff at the Swaner Eco-Center in Park City.-Work with on-campus specialists in developing applied research projects and program development and delivery to clientele.-Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming.-Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming.-Manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers.-Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension.-Serve and collaborate with other Extension and University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
Minimum Qualifications:An earned Masters degree in the areas of production agriculture, animal science, agronomy, horticulture (vegetable and fruit production), Extension Education, or closely related field.Ability to plan, organize and direct educational programs.Experience in teaching adult and/or youth audiences.Excellent oral and written English communication skills.Ability to act as a liaison between federal, state, university, and county clientele.Experience in using various technology platforms for the creation and dissemination of educational webinars, on-line classes, and educational video production.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member. Must have a current drivers license, auto insurance, and access to reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications:Experience with program development and/or delivery related to urban agriculture, small farms production and management, natural resource management, and 4-H livestock and horse youth programming.Farmer Markets and organic produce production experience.Skills and experience with the following:Implementing applied research activities.Grant writing.Recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.Low income and under-served audiences.Social media.Related organizations/agencies and fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders.Prior experience with the Land Grant University System.Bi-lingual Spanish/English.
