Description:
Larimer County is the ninth largest county at 2,640 square miles, and the sixth largest county in population with over 310,000 residents. Located in north central Colorado, Larimer County is a county of contrasts ranging from the high mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park in the west to foothills and plains along the Interstate 25 corridor. Most of the population resides in Fort Collins and Loveland. There are three school districts in the county. The median household income is $75,800. An additional 5,000 members participate in 4-H outreach programs. There are 375 adult volunteers supporting the club program. The fourteen Extension staff members consist of the director, eight agents including this position (agriculture/natural resources; horticulture; family and consumer science; 4-H youth development; food safety), several coordinators, community educators and support staff. PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position provides leadership, guidance, direction and educational programming to support the 4-H youth development program in Larimer County. This individual works under the guidance and supervision of the Larimer County Extension director; they also work as a member of the Larimer County Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University.As part of the 4-H team, this individual will lead and direct a diverse and inclusive 4-H youth development program in Larimer County. In addition to providing leadership for the program, the agent will have programmatic responsibility for several areas including 4-H, livestock, animal science, and general projects including shooting sports. Once this position is filled, members of the 4-H team will work collaboratively to identify expertise and determine areas of program and project responsibility. Larimer Countys goal is to make 4-H the program of choice among youth and adults, seeking opportunities for personal development, engagement, community building, fun, and success. Additional members of the 4-H team include a 4-H youth development agent - family and consumer sciences; a PT 4-H youth development agent - STEM & AmeriCorps; a 4-H program coordinator; a PT youth development intern; two 4-H STEM AmeriCorps members and a 4-H administrative assistant. This individual will work regularly with other Extension agents across program and county lines, with program teams and the State 4-H office.

Program Planning, Development, Delivery, Evaluation and Reporting: 40% Develop and enhance the delivery of the effective, educational, results-oriented 4-H Youth Development Program that supports the growth and development of life skills among both youth and adult audiences.Actively participate in Extension program teams to provide youth development expertise for program development, delivery and evaluation efforts statewide.Provide leadership for the 4-H livestock, equine, small animal and general projects including Shooting Sports. Support and deliver appropriate educational opportunities to 4-H youth and adult leaders to ensure integration of current best practices, legal requirements and meat quality assurance into 4-H livestock programs.Promote programming for diverse audiences and assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies including reaching out to underserved and underrepresented audiences.Participate in professional development, evening and weekend events, and occasional events requiring overnight stays.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Volunteer Recruitment, Development and Management: 30% Provide leadership for active, ongoing, adult and youth volunteer development and engagement through volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education, training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support. Prepare volunteers to assume increasing leadership, management, and diverse public education/information roles; enhance the middle management level of volunteers to conduct 4-H programming through Larimer County.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Initiate and Develop Relationships and Partnerships: 15%Provide leadership and support to engage a broad range of stakeholders through 4-H advisory and program committees, local collaborations, county fair leadership committees, and others in the work of identifying priority 4-H and youth development needs.Seek internal and external partnerships, funding and resources to support programming efforts.Develop strong working relationships and effective communications with local Extension staff, university staff, local schools, county departments, community leaders, agencies and other youth-serving organizations and institutions to enhance funding and implementation of local 4-H youth development programming. ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Completed bachelor's degree. Degree must be completed in education, youth development, non-profit management, animal sciences or a closely related field. Coursework should reflect significant understanding of youth development. A successful candidate without a completed masters degree will be required to complete a masters degree relevant to their Extension position within 5 years from the start of employment. Failure to do so will result in termination unless a compelling reason is accepted by the Director of Extension. Minimum two years professional youth development experience.Degree, significant coursework, professional experience, or background working with animal science related programs and livestock handling experience.Minimum one-year professional volunteer program management experience.Experience in audience needs identification, program development, and evaluating results of programs.Demonstrated skill working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations, and to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.Experience utilizing methods of effective conflict resolution, mediation, and group facilitation.Evidence of drive and initiative. Understanding of different ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, commitment to include diverse voices in program prioritization, planning and implementation. Demonstrated leadership ability.Ability to communicate, writing skills as demonstrated through application materials and experience in teaching, public speaking, and/or working as part of a group or team.Demonstrated use of technology in communicating, managing and/or delivering educational programs.Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Successful experience developing financial support for educational programs: grant writing, fund raising, contracting, or cost recovery.Experience in marketing, promoting or creating public awareness of programs and opportunities.Demonstrated ability to use social and mass media (TV, Internet, Facebook, radio, newspapers).Experience with Shooting Sports programming for youth and/or adult audiences.Bilingual English and Spanish.
