Description:
This position is located in Roundup, MT. The primary focus of the Musselshell/Golden Valley County Extension Agent will be in the areas of agriculture and secondary 4-H youth development. The Agent will also serve as an informational resource and an educational program facilitator for diverse constituents needs, including natural resources, community development and family and consumer sciences.Musselshell and Golden Valley counties are located in south central Montana in the Musselshell River Drainage. Roundup is the county seat for Musselshell County with a population of about 2000 and a total county population of 4665. Ryegate is the county seat for Golden Valley with a total county population of about 839. Total land area of the two counties is 3042 square miles. Other towns and communities in the area include Lavina, Musselshell and Melstone. Although there is coal and oil development in the area, agriculture has been the main economical factor in these two counties. Livestock, forage crops and some small grain production make up the majority agriculture commodities. The Musselshell River cuts though the counties with the Bull Mountains to the south side of the river in Musselshell County and the Snowy Mountains bordering the north side of Golden Valley County. Both county seats are within a one hour drive of Billings MT, the largest city in Montana.We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, implement and evaluate educational programs in agriculture, with emphases on forage and dry land crop production, livestock production, weed control, farm management, range management, and pesticide education.Provide leadership for program development, coordination, leadership development, and evaluation of 4-H programs.Respond to home pest and horticulture questions.Assist groups and individuals in providing family and consumer sciences and adult educational programming as needed.Assist Musselshell County Commisioners manage the County Fairgrounds and produce a County Youth Fair.Plan, implement and evaluate educational programs for acreage owners in areas for land use, weed control, urban interface, and other land management issues.Supervise a full-time administrative assistant; manage the Extension Office and serve as Extension Office Chair.Involve county citizens, through a stakeholder input process, in the identification of priorities and program direction for the Musselshell/Golden Valley Counties Extension program.Cooperate and collaborate with area Extension agents and with Extension specialists to conduct and evaluate effective, integrated educational programming.Utilize electronic mail, the internet and other advancing technology to research topics for clientele and communicate with MSU Extension staff and others.Cooperate with local, state and national organizations and committees appropriate to the clientele of Musselshell/Golden Valley counties.Comply with all Extension, federal, state, university and county reporting requirements.Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies.The position also requires using a variety of teaching methods, and handling and operating a variety of demonstration and educational equipment.Develop and maintain a working relationship with both sets of County Commissioners.Being in a dual county appointment, spend appropriate amount of time in both counties.Incumbent will attend and participate in required training for the use of personal protective equipment and comply with requirements for use of employer provided equipment.

Required Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills1.Bachelors Degree in related field and/or relevant work experience in Family and Consumer Sciences.2.Demonstrated experience leading groups, plan, implement, facilitate, teach and evaluate educational programs.3.Demonstrated experience in computer literacy, computer use in program development, delivery and/or management.4.Demonstrated experience working effectively with groups and individuals.5.Demonstrated experience working effectively with youth and adults. Preferred Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills1.Masters degree in a related field2.At least one degree (either Bachelors or Masters), or significant relevant experience in Animal Science, Ag Business, Agriculture Education, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a closely related agricultural field.3.Experience in livestock, farm management crop production, and weed management.4.Facilitation or mediation experience or training.5.Knowledge or experience in 4-H or other youth development programs.6.Training and/or experience in budget development and management
