Extensions total annual budget of approximately $28 million supports approximately 325 extension specialists, agents, administrators, and staff. Through its county, state and federal partnership Extension currently focuses its efforts in: nutrition, food safety, and health; 4-H youth development; community and economic development; natural resources; cropping systems; energy; environmental horticulture; family and consumer science; food systems; and livestock and range. Working closely with local and state advisory groups to determine local program needs and direction, Extension draws on the resources of 13 different departments in five colleges to provide non-credit educational programs based on research-generated knowledge. The office for this position is in the State Extension Administration Office in the University Square building located at 1311 South College Avenue in Fort Collins.The Assistant Director of Professional Development provides leadership and management responsibilities for all aspects of professional development for Colorado State University Extension and plays a key role in advancing strategic initiatives that impact organizational development. The Assistant Director of Professional Development will report to the Assistant Vice President for Engagement and Deputy Director of Extension and will serve as a member of the Director of Extensions Administrative Council. In addition, this position, in coordination with the Assistant Director for Human Resources, will provide support for the Human Resources management of Extension.

Leadership of Professional Development (55%)Supports Extension statewide by identifying staff needs and contributing to the design, development, delivery and assessment of new and existing employee professional development opportunities for all Extension staff.Uses the Extension strategic plan goals and related action steps to aid in the development of professional development opportunities. Provides leadership and oversight of onboarding Extensions new staff. Manages and serves as the instructor of the CSU Extension Online New Staff Orientation (NSO) program, which includes notifying new staff, monitoring participation, responding to questions/deadlines and verifying new staff complete the online orientation in a timely manner. Update online course design/content as needed. Schedules and leads the on-campus New Staff Orientation program. Determines timing of campus NSO, invites new staff, monitors participation, and determines program content and presenters.Provides leadership and oversight of the annual Extension Forum. Works with Program Leadership Team (PLT) leadership and Forum committee to plan, deliver and evaluate annual Forum event.Provides support for Extensions diversity efforts relating to organizational environment; employment, including recruitment and hiring procedures and decisions; retention; and culturally appropriate support and connections. This person will serve as the HR liaison to the CSU Extension Diversity Catalyst Team.Collaborates with CSUs Office of Training and Organizational Development (TOD) to identify and market personal and professional growth opportunities for CSU Extension staff. Serves as Colorados liaison to the Western Extension Leadership Development (WELD) Program. Coordinates Colorados participation in WELD.Leads the CSU Extension mentorship program including mentor training, support and evaluation.Supports and assists in the growth of the internship program as resources become available.Provides counsel and advice to all Extension employees (in 64 counties across Colorado and campus-based employees) regarding professional development policies and procedures. Manages non-regional professional development funds.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Extension Strategic Initiatives Contributions (35%)Assists in the advancement of initiatives identified during the Extension strategic planning process that are related to organizational development. Collaborates with and contributes to committees, task forces and working groups on strategic areas related to organizational development, such as organizational structure, salary and benefits, recruiting and retention, recognizing and rewarding excellence, and reporting. In collaboration with other Extension leadership, provides updates, priorities, next steps and redesigns of the Extension strategic plan to ensure continual advancement of the goals and actions as developed throughout the organization, especially those related to organizational development. Extension Human Resources Assistance (10%)Supports human resource development across Extension.Supports employment processes and recruitment activities in collaboration with the Extension Assistant Director of Human Resources.Supports Extensions implementation, oversight and operation of the central TMS system. Function as a TMS subject matter expert (with the Assistant Director of Human Resources). When needed, serves as EO Coordinator for Extension searches. Collaborates with the Assistant Directors of HR and Fiscal and the Deputy Director of Extension on the policies and direction for Extension human resources functions for approval by the Director of Extension and Vice President of Engagement.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Completed masters degree in organizational development/behavior, education, industrial organizational psychology, human resources, business or closely related field.Minimum of three years of training and organizational development experience.Ability to communicate as demonstrated through application materials and experience, in teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing skills.Demonstrated skill working with people as individuals, groups and staff, and ability to forge equitable partnerships with other professionals and organizations to accomplish team goals as indicated by experience and references.Evidence of drive and initiative. Must be a self-starter.General computer literacy.Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
