Penn State Extension is seeking to hire multiple Education Strategy and Planning Area Master Gardener Coordinators, each of whom will oversee their respective assigned geographical area. County Programs:Area 1: Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Lawrence, Butler, Venango, Warren, Clarion, McKeon, Jefferson, Elk, and Potter counties.Area 2: Armstrong, Indiana, Allegheny, Beaver, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Cambria, Blair, Bedford, and Somerset counties.Area 3: Lebanon, Fulton, Huntington, Juniata/Mifflin, Union/Snyder, Lancaster, Dauphin, Cumberland/Perry, Franklin, Adams, and York counties.Area 4: Schuylkill, Berks, Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Columbia/Northumberland/Montour, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh/Northampton, Carbon, and Monroe.Area 5: Tioga, Lycoming, Bradford/Sullivan, Wyoming, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Centre, Clinton, Lackawanna, Pike, and Wayne. Office Location: Five locations across Pennsylvania.This individual will provide regional leadership and coordination for the Master Gardener Program through collaborative relationships with the State Master Gardener Coordinator, County Master Gardener Coordinators, Master Gardener volunteers, Extension Educators, faculty and administrators.Responsibilities include direct supervision of county Master Gardener coordinators in a select geographic area. The individual will be involved with the managed growth of the Penn State Master Gardener Program through effective yearly basic training, advanced training, development and maintenance of an internal communication system, and adherence to the program's strategic plan. The individual will also be responsible for development of a statewide funding portfolio including program cost recovery, grants and contracts, and fund development.Specific Program Responsibilities: Directly supervise and coordinate efforts of County Master Gardener Coordinators to uphold the mission and policies of the Penn State Master Gardener Program through adherence to program focus, branding, and compliance with Master Gardener, Extension, College of Ag Sciences and University policies, procedures and systems; Work with State MG Coordinator to plan and facilitate: annual leadership in-service for County MG Coordinators and key leaders, biennial state MG conference, biennial Master Gardener mini-college for PSU Master Gardeners and additional professional development of County Master Gardener Coordinators; Work closely with the Master Gardener State Steering Committee to set strategic direction for the program at the national, state, and local levels; Work with State MG Coordinator to plan and facilitate annual remote basic training of new volunteers (via Zoom) maintaining uniform quality of training in all areas of the state; Work with the County MG Coordinators to implement annual basic training of new volunteers in their area, maintaining uniform quality of training in all areas of the state; Work with State MG Coordinator to plan and coordinate consumer horticulture media outreach effort utilizing various media including websites, television, print, social media (WPSU - quarterly Conversations, Farm Bureau magazine, gardening columns); Collaborate with the State MG Coordinator on program evaluation, including generation of a yearly impact report; Work with State MG Coordinator and County MG Coordinators and College marketing staff to generate revenue streams through development of profitable consumer horticulture educational products and programs; Raise revenues through sponsorships and grants; may serve as Principal Investigator on grants; Lead and participate in interviewing and selection of County Master Gardener Coordinators, orient and work with Extension leadership to set performance standards for staff.

Minimum education level :
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education and experience in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or a related field is desirable. Additional years of relevant work experience in volunteer management, the ability to inspire and develop leadership in individuals and committees and to build and maintain community partnerships is highly preferred. Must possess strong organizational and communications skills (both oral and written), computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds with or without accommodation. Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a car. There is an expectation of regular travel throughout their respective geographic area. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Preference will be given to candidates who have: experience managing volunteers, horticulture background, experience in adult or non-formal education, and competency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint and databases. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
