The Department of 4-H Youth Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a Field Specialist 4-H Youth Development within the counties of Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Osceola, OBrien, and Cherokee.The Field Specialist will provide direction for the 4-H Youth Development program in Northwest Iowa through working to build the skills of adults (county staff, volunteers, and partners) to successfully create, implement, and evaluate youth programs that help meet the 4-H mission of: Empowering youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research based experiences. To meet this mission the 4-H Youth Development Field Specialist will work with county and state staff to develop and carry out innovative youth programs, to identify, recruit, and retain youth from new and diverse as well as traditional audiences, to create an environment of inclusion and a sense of belonging for youth from underrepresented groups, to identify and form new community partnerships to recruit and train volunteers, and serve as a liaison between county and state 4-H programs.Responsibilities include: Strategic Plan Support 4-H Program Priority Support (Healthy Living, STEM, Civic Engagement and Leadership, Communication and the Arts) Program Leadership and Program Evaluation Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Support Staff Support and TrainingThis position will be filled at the Field Specialist I or II level. In addition to Field Specialist I duties, a Field Specialist II will create and deliver comprehensive and complex programming; conduct needs assessment activities; identify and implement creative ways to meet clients needs; take an active role in the development of programming; and provide leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, area and state level.The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals and groups. The candidate will also have the ability to build connections with community leaders, organizations, schools, and interested individuals from new and diverse as well as traditional audiences. Cooperates with and informs Supervisors, Regional Directors, County Extension Councils, County Extension Staff, Field Specialists, and State Program Leader of their projects and has a positive working relationship with staff and clients in assigned geographic and colleagues throughout the state. Strong organizational skills are also necessary as this position will be expected to organize and manage workload while working on multiple projects at any given time.

Minimum education level :
Bachelor's degree.
Years of experience :
Minimum of three years of related experience required.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires the ability to travel in order to carry out the duties of this position, and candidates must have access to reliable transportation. The duties of this position require willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications: A degree in Youth/Child Development, Education, Public Administration, Community Development, Public Service and Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields. Additional years of related experience. Experience with youth outreach. Experience building relationships with multiple stakeholder groups (i.e. coworkers, community organizations, families, youth and volunteers). Experience creating inclusive environments and programs for youth with disabilities or special needs. Experience creating inclusive environments and programs for youth from diverse populations.Experience with developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative positive youth development programming. Experience with networking and building community connections. Experience with staff and volunteer supervision. Experience with volunteer development. Multi-lingual language skills.
