This position is a non-tenure track, 12-month, fiscal-year appointment and is based at Utah State University's main campus in Logan, Utah. This position will provide statewide leadership for the Utah 4-H Agriculture and Animal Science Programs using research-based delivery strategies to develop and support programs that engage diverse youth members and adult volunteers. As a member of the State 4-H Office, this position will work in an excellent team environment, where professionals work together to provide leadership to Utah 4-H programs.Responsibilities:4-H Agriculture and Animal Science ProgramsProvide leadership and/or support to the Utah 4-H agriculture and animal science programs by:* Providing educational and technical information to county Extension faculty with 4-H and youth development responsibilities in agriculture and animal science programs.* Maintaining liaisons and close working relationships with state agencies dealing with agriculture, livestock, horses, small and companion animals.* Working cooperatively with other state Extension coordinators and specialists in developing and implementing multi-discipline activities.* Developing and/or locating program curriculum as needed.* Moving portions of the 4-H agriculture and animal science programming online.* Coordinating 4-H livestock and animal science programs, judging schools and agricultural related contests at State 4-H Contests.* Representing Utah State University Cooperative Extension and the 4-H Program in a professional manner to a variety of audiences.* Working as a member of the State 4-H Team and share in the associated responsibilities.* Contributing to the advancement of 4-H Ag related programs.* Providing program and volunteer development/support to animal science 4-H project areas.* Insuring 4-H agents and volunteers are aware of 4-H and university policies.* Assisting county 4-H staff in developing and supporting a volunteer program in the areas of agriculture and animal science programs.* Provide leadership to volunteer management through online resources.* Supporting existing volunteers by providing programs, materials, and opportunities that elevate volunteer development at all levels.* Assisting the Director of 4-H in identifying, developing and adopting polices to protect the university, 4-H employees, volunteers and members.General 4-H Assignments* Responsible for providing State leadership for the Western National Round-up.* Assist 4-H staff with various assignments including state, regional, and national programs and events.* Assist with the expansion of the financial foundation of Utah 4-H.* Provide leadership to the Utah Collegiate 4-H program.* Accept other State 4-H responsibilities as assigned.* Serve on university and Extension committees as appropriate.Dept/College Highlights:Since its founding in 1888, Utah State University has evolved from a small-town college tucked away in the Northern Utah mountains to a thriving research university respected around the world. As new research and ideas are developed at land grant universities, 4-H is bringing these ideas to children and youth across the state through a variety of 4-H programs.Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications* Master's degree in Agriculture Education, Extension Education, or other youth development related fields. Must have degree in hand by date of employment.* Have demonstrated positive attitude and work ethic.* Experience with agriculture, animal science and volunteer management.* Experience with fundraising and fund development.* Clear understanding of positive youth development.* Current knowledge/experience of the Utah 4-H program.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.* Strong computer and organizational skills.* Demonstrated ability to relate to, and work effectively with, youth and adults.* Must have excellent interpersonal skills.* Evidence of ability to work with, and be a part of a team.* Must show self-motivation and self-directed abilities.* Proven ability to provide leadership in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating educational programs related to agriculture and 4-H youth development programs.* Ability to maintain and build volunteer involvement in all 4-H delivery modes.* Willing to work evenings, weekends and travel within state and out-of-state as necessary.Preferred Qualifications* One degree in an agricultural related field.* Minimum of three (3) years' experience working in youth development or a county 4-H program preferred.* Experience developing and running volunteer led agricultural/animal science programs.Opportunity Type: Full-Time w/benefits packagePercent of Time or Hours per Week: 100%Advertised Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefitsSee for more information and to apply online.Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
