Logan County (pop. 22,000) is in Northeastern Colorado. Logan County has an agriculturally-based economy with dryland, irrigated and livestock enterprises. It is a trade center for a 60-mile radius. The county seat, Sterling, has a population of 14,000 and is about a two-hour drive northeast of Denver. Major employers include a state correctional facility, city and county government, school districts, Sterling Regional Medical Center, technology, manufacturing and agriculture related services. The position will provide leadership, guidance, direction and educational program support to agricultural programs in Logan County. This position will support the 4-H Youth Development Program in Logan County. The individual in this position works as a member of the local county Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: The successful candidate will:Program Planning, Development, Delivery, Evaluation and Reporting: 60%Develop, market, deliver, and evaluate non-credit educational programming and information delivery to Logan County in response to locally identified needs in the livestock industry, and related issues and emerging enterprises to enhance current production practices. Provide program and information delivery support to colleagues in area(s) of specified expertise as appropriate; this may take the form of delivering priority consumer or industry programming, representing CSUE on boards or in partnerships, or responding to atypical requests for information in specified area of expertise.Assume responsibility for overall planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the total agriculture and 4-H livestock program.Seek to offer new opportunities for 4-H youth, leaders, and parents through new and innovative opportunities, with the goal of expanding the involvement, reach, and effectiveness of the 4-H program.Work cooperatively with 4-H livestock agents to provide appropriate educational opportunities to 4-H /Youth livestock project leaders and/or members to ensure integration of current best management practices including meat quality assurance.Effectively communicate and coordinate resources, research and programming with personnel/staff of Colorado State University and other colleges, agencies, universities and institutions to enhance program development, delivery and evaluation. Use technology and media resources to extend information and educational opportunities to Coloradoans.Provide leadership and assistance with other activities as assigned by Extension.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Initiate and Develop Relationships and Partnerships: 25%Develop relationships with the local livestock industry including producers, agencies and organizations across all species to continually assess conditions and identify needs. Engage such diverse groups in the development of program direction and evaluation of program effectiveness.Use entrepreneurial skills to find or generate external funding sources (grants, contracts, gifts, sponsorships, user fees, etc.) and practice cost recovery. Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies including reaching out to underserved and underrepresented audiences.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.Volunteer Recruitment, Development and Management: 15% Maintain effective communication with Colorado State University personnel, community leaders, and other agencies/organizations to enhance strong program development, delivery and evaluation.Recruit and provide leadership opportunities and training for 4-H volunteer leaders that will enable their effectiveness in working with youth and retain their commitment over sustained periods of time.Note: % of job assigned to this duty may be changed as the program develops.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education level :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Completed bachelors degree in agriculture and natural resources, animal science, range/livestock management, education, youth development or a closely related field prior to beginning the position. A successful candidate without a completed masters degree will be required to complete a masters degree relevant to their Extension position within 5 years from the start of employment. Failure to do so may result in termination.Course work or prior experience as evidence of capacity to conduct effective educational programs for both youth and adult audiences. Demonstrated leadership ability.Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to affect change or obtain desired outcomes. Appreciation and understanding of rural agricultural communities and the opportunities and challenges facing them. Evidence of drive and initiative. Must be a self-starter.Ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience. Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs.Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:Completed masters degree.Experience or coursework in agricultural business management as related to livestock production and marketing, animal nutrition, forages, rangeland management and/or reproductive physiology.Experience with farm research or demonstration projects.Experience and familiarity with mass media and electronic communications (TV, Internet, radio, newspapers, on-line education). Experience in identifying audience needs, developing programs and evaluating impacts of programs. Understanding and appreciation of the interaction between wildlife and livestock production.Interest or experience in providing livestock educational programs or information to youth and youth program leaders. Knowledge of and experience with methods of conflict resolution, facilitation and public issues education.Demonstrated ability to generate extramural funds (grants, contracts, and cost recovery efforts). Ability to speak Spanish.
