Description:
The Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies is seeking to hire a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank who will provide innovative leadership and expertise in the areas of early childhood care and education, child development, family engagement and education, workforce development, and quality early learning environments for children in preschool through third grade. The incumbent will develop and deliver engaging Extension programming, conduct high impact research in federal funding priority areas, and produce scholarship related to early childhood care and education for preschoolers, kindergarteners and early grade schoolers that will be recognized locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.The Extension programming of this faculty member will enhance and complement dynamic programming already occurring in early childhood education and child development in the department, college and Extension.The incumbent will provide leadership in efforts to make progress to the following aims: a) increase community awareness about what high quality early childhood development and learning is and what it looks like at home and early childhood programs; b) increase family access to developmentally appropriate education programs in their communities; c) enhance the quality of early education in Nebraska communities; d) increase the professionalism and skill of the early childhood workforce (preschool through 3rd grade); e) enhance the transitions among preschool, kindergarten and the early grades for young children and their families.The incumbents research and Extension work will be designed to empower educators, parents, teachers, professionals in early childhood, and policymakers to understand high quality learning environments and experiences for young children. Their effort will contribute to the development of a workforce prepared to deliver developmentally appropriate programming in academic environments that are becoming increasingly pressured, and that address gaps in opportunity for children.It is expected that the person will bring both their Extension and research programs to scale through external funding, including federal funding mechanisms. The incumbent is expected to serve on inter-disciplinary Extension issue teams and collaborate with others to expand the impact of their work. This includes connecting with stakeholders, agency and/or industry partners in a way that strengthens their research and Extension programming and expands the impact of effort, products, and outcomes.The incumbent is expected to identify issues and opportunities focused on stakeholder and learner needs and emerging regional and national issues. She/he will translate research-based information into learner-centered products. This includes creating scholarly, innovative, and high impact learning programs and tools. The incumbent will measure the impact of their programs and effectively communicate results to administrators, stakeholders, users, and the media. It is expected that this Specialist will mentor Extension colleagues through professional development, translational research, grants and professional writing. Their outreach, research and scholarship will contribute to the emphasis on early childhood education within the department, college, Extension, and University. All educational programs and actions will meet affirmative action requirements and embrace diversity.It is expected that the incumbent will mentor graduate and undergraduate students and serve on graduate program supervisory committees. The incumbent will contribute to departmental citizenship which includes serving on faculty committees and fulfilling other responsibilities contributing to the functioning of the unit, including supporting student recruitment.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in early childhood education, child development, or related area with knowledge of, and expertise in early childhood education. Experience teaching in informal or formal teaching/training situations, and evidence of teaching excellence. Record of research and scholarship that demonstrates potential for developing a high impact program of research in federal funding priority areas.Preferred Qualifications: Certification (or eligibility of certification) as an early childhood education teacher. Experience as an early childhood professional working with young children in pre-school through grade 3 settings. Experience with professional development for early childhood professionals and programs. Demonstrated ability to work on multidisciplinary teams Experience with outreach programming.
