University of Idaho Extension is seeking applicants for the permanent, 12-month, tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor, Extension Educator. The Extension Educator will provide overall leadership and organization for the county 4-H Youth Development program (70%) and support for multi-county 4-H Youth Development programs in a specific area of expertise (10%). The Educator will provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate. The Educator will oversee the county 4-H Youth Development program, including volunteer recruitment and development, and educational programming for youth and volunteers. There is currently a full-time 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator and five additional Extension educators in the Ada County Extension office that support county youth programming. The Educator will supervise the 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator. In collaboration with appropriate university faculty, other youth governmental and non-profit agencies and clientele groups, the Extension Educator will contribute to 4-H Youth Development program planning and implementation in a multi-county area. They will conduct program evaluation and report program impacts. The Educator could potentially serve as chair of the Ada County Extension Office (20%). As administrative chair for the office, they would maintain a good working relationship with the Ada County Board of Commissioners, provide supervision for county budget preparation and personnel and perform other chair duties as required.

Additional Description, Instructions or Comments:
SCHOLARSHIP & CREATIVE ACTIVITIES (5%) - Recruit external funding and develop partnerships that support and enhance county and district educational programs and research projects, and publish results in appropriate scholarly outlets. OUTREACH & EXTENSION (70%) - Provide leadership and technical support for the 4-H Youth Development program in Ada County. The primary focus will be to increase partnerships, strengthen the volunteer base and increase funding; all of which will result in more youth involved in 4-H youth developmental programs in Ada County and the district. Provide instruction and support in 4-H Youth Development for county, multi-county and district programs. Plan, develop, implement, evaluate and report 4-H Youth Development programs. Participate in the University of Idaho Extension, 4-H Youth Development program planning teams. Programs will focus in one of the 4-H National Mission mandates of 4-H Science, Healthy Living or Civic Engagement and Leadership. These programs will provide impact for a mix of rural, suburban and urban audiences. Work with specialists and other faculty to provide technical subject matter training and curriculum materials. Programs will be delivered through classes, workshops, volunteer training sessions, and other methods as appropriate. Prepare articles for local and regional newspapers. Participate in or provide information for radio and TV programs upon request. Develop grants that enhance county and district youth educational programs. Be responsible for developing and utilizing a 4-H Expansion and Review Committee and appropriate program advisory committees. UNIVERSITY SERVICE & LEADERSHIP (25%) - Potentially serve as the administrative chair for the Ada County Extension Office. Provide leadership for office management, oversee county budgets and supervise office staff. Serve on University, College, Extension, district and community committees, boards and working groups as appropriate.

Minimum education level :
Masters degree from an accredited institution in Youth Development, Adult and Extension Education, or a closely related discipline (the required degree must be completed by the date of hire).
Years of experience :
Preferred but not required - At least 3 years of experience in Extension Education and 4-H Youth Development (relevant experience acquired within the last 5 years preferred).
Travel Requirements:
Must be willing and able to travel and participate in evening and weekend programs.
Other Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to organize and work with people. Computer literacy and good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to teach and lead group problem-solving and decision-making. Competence in using technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team-based communications. Ability to provide organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups. Ability to recruit, teach, organize, and manage volunteer groups.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to work well in a team, provide effective leadership for Extension programming, and provide marketing and promotion for 4-H Youth Development Extension programs. Ability to adapt research materials for effective oral and written presentations. Experience in disseminating results through scholarly outlets. Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and mentor others. Demonstrated skills in organization and management. Previous experience working with underserved, un-served and minority audiences. Knowledge of Hispanic culture and ability to communicate in Spanish, both orally and in writing.
