Description:
The Extension Food and Nutrition Specialist, located within the Department of Health and Human Development, coordinates relevant and current information from a variety of sources to facilitate and deliver effective unbiased, researched-based food and nutrition programming in Montana. The Specialist develops appropriate Extension educational programs and resources; assists in their delivery and evaluation throughout the state; provides Extension Agent training, develops professional partnerships with field faculty, specialist, associate specialist, other faculty and stakeholders that advance the mission of Extension; conducts research and publishes as required by departmental promotion and tenure guidelines, including research that addresses identified needs and emergent issues; prepares and manages grants; serves on university, state and national committees; and disseminates information to mass media related to food and nutrition topics. Program design should be responsive to changing state, county and national situations, and human needs.Founded in 1893 as a Land Grant University, Montana State University (MSU) is composed of eight academic colleges and a graduate school and boasts a friendly, supportive faculty and campus environment. Bozeman is located in the beautiful Gallatin Valley, 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park.The Department strives to maintain a rich and diverse faculty group, and women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.This specialist is expected to develop a research and extension program, secure extramural funding, and publish research results in appropriate refereed and peer reviewed journals and extension publications; conduct workshops, webinars and presentations to agents and other constituents throughout Montana; provide materials and education to extension agents, develops professional partnerships with field faculty, specialist, associate specialist, other faculty and stakeholders that advance the mission of Extension; conduct and interpret research related to food and nutrition; and collaborate with the MSU Extension SNAP and FNEP education programs. Serve to the betterment of Extension on university committees, state, regional, national and other activities that support Extension, department, college and communities. Participate in relevant state, regional, national and international professional activities. Maintain timely accountability through reporting to Extension, internal and external stakeholders, and funding partners; documenting outcomes, impacts and successes in Extension scholarship.Required: Doctoral degree with at least one degree in nutrition, food science, sustainable foods, or related area by the time of hire Strong record of academic achievement Ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs Ability to develop scholarship in field of food and nutrition as indicated by grant contracts, publications and/or presentations Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of information technologies for dissemination of educational information and educational programming Demonstrated knowledge and skills to work with diverse audiencesPreferred: Extension or teaching experience Experience writing and managing grants and contracts Registered Dietician certificationThe successful candidate will: Possess excellent human relation and written communication skills; be able to develop exemplary Extension, research and teaching programs; be able to work effectively with other faculty and staff members; have evidence of good judgment; possess flexibility and innovativeness in order to respond to the changing needs of people in Montana; be able to work harmoniously with youth and adults on an individual and group basis; and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate will also have a familiarity with multi-cultural and different socioeconomic audiences, an interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds, and have a commitment to the principles of diversity and to excellence in extension programming.Will possess, or be able to obtain, a Montana drivers license or have other means of reliable transportation.
