Description:
The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development (NCRCRD) is jointly funded by USDA and land-grant universities, such as Michigan State University (MSU) in its 12-state region. MSU and the NCRCRD seeks recent PhDs as post-doctoral fellow. The fellow will execute the following activities:Actively engage with the NCRCRD advisory board and land-grant university administrators to develop/disseminate curriculum and programming, develop grant-writing teams, and prepare refereed journal articles related to one or more of the following broad areas (link to www.ncrcrd.msu.edu for more details): Building a 21st century economySustainable communities Leadership development and civic engagementCommunity health and wellnessThe position will be appointed for up to twelve months, and pending funding availability extended to 24 months. Through the experience with NCRCRD, the fellow will complement the strong disciplinary training of their PhD program with exposure to a broad range of sciences and learning-by-doing in rural development Extension curriculum design and pilot testing. The position will be located at North Dakota State University. The primary service areas for the post-doc will be Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Key activities will be in the community and economic development arena; duties will include organizing teams within these states to develop projects and grant proposals, develop stronger linkages with the other states in the NC region, strengthen partnerships with tribal communities and tribal colleges, and prepare refereed journal articles.At the end of their post-doctoral experiences, the fellows will enjoy a network of senior academic and policy colleagues from which they may launch successful careers as faculty members or policy analysts.Fellows will be compensated commensurate with recent PhDs in their field of study, and will have access to health care benefits.Location of Activities:The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to North Dakota and will be provided with an office on the North Dakota State University (NDSU) campus in Fargo, in close proximity to mentors within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS). ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
Required Qualifications:PhD in a social science, completed by the date of the first day of employment.Demonstrated interest in topics addressed by NCRCRD. Strong English written and verbal communications skills. Ability to travel independently by air and drive an automobile.

Travel Requirements:
The position will involve travel to the main NCRCRD office in East Lansing, Michigan and other parts of the NCRCRDs twelve-state area (especially Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota), Washington DC, and to conferences related to the topics addressed by the fellow.
Other Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:Academic record of publications related to the issues to be address by NCRCRD.Demonstrated skills in quantitative analysis.Demonstrated ability to synthesize academic inputs from a wide array of sources. Understanding of the land grant university system.
