Description:
As part of Michigan State University Extension and the Agriculture & Agribusiness Institute, the Floriculture/Greenhouse Extension Educator will have statewide Extension programming responsibilities focused on floriculture and greenhouse crop production and pest management. Michigan, a national leader in greenhouse-grown plant material, ranks third among U.S. states in floriculture crop production. This position, based in Kalamazoo County, is in the heart of the greenhouse plant production in southwest Michigan. The Educator will provide local and statewide leadership and educational programming expertise; will collaborate across work teams, Institutes, and community groups, including faculty, specialists, and educators, to achieve efficient/economical floriculture/greenhouse production, and advancement of the greenhouse and ornamental industries. This position provides leadership and cooperation in planning, developing, and delivery of educational programs and information dissemination; provides knowledge to profitably produce agricultural products while minimizing environmental impacts; contributes to short/long-term viability of commercial enterprises; promotes the economic well-being of Michigan citizens; evaluates programming based on basic and applied research; and meets the needs of clientele groups. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across disciplines on a breadth of educational and research projects, including ongoing projects and new projects.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education level :
Masters degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or crop science, which must be earned by date of hire. See full position description for complete list of required qualifications.
Years of experience :
Demonstrated ability and skill in educational program planning, implementation, and evaluation (relevant experience acquired within the last 5 years preferred).
