Horticulture Aide (Richland County)

Position Description

JOB SUMMARY:
Part-time Horticulture Aide to assist Extension Agent in Richland County. Handle daily calls and walk-ins in the area of Home Horticulture. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:
70% – Essential – Assist clientele by disseminating unbiased, research-based information in area of Home Horticulture including, but not limited to, ornamentals, turf, production and/or maintenance of vegetable gardens and fruits. Answer/respond to phone calls, office visits and support of educational groups.

25% – Essential – Assist clientele with soil sample and plant problem submissions. Assist in identification of indoor and outdoor pest, including insects and vertebrates. Continue to educate Master Gardener volunteers serving in the Richland County Extension Office. Write and edit educational horticulture materials (fliers, articles, electronic media) that meet the needs of clientele.

5% – Essential – Record and report contacts into CUMIS reporting system.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment.

An associate degree in animal health technology or a discipline related to agriculture may be substituted for the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education - Associate's Degree or higher in Horticulture, Plant Sciences or related field

Work Experience - 5+ years
